Matt, who is best friends with ‘The Bachelorette’ contestant, Tyler Cameron, was originally cast as a contestant on season 16 of ‘The Bachelorette.’ However, when production on the show was delayed amidst the coronavirus pandemic, ABC selected Matt to be the next star of ‘The Bachelor.’ He is the first Black Bachelor in the show’s history, and was chosen amidst a call for more diversity on the show during the summer of 2020.
Thirty two women were chosen as contestants to meet Matt on night one of ‘The Bachelor.’ He revealed in pre-show previews that he had never been in love before, and was ready to find the woman of his dreams to experience that feeling for the very first time.
